Porn Mode
Today I heard about a new feature planned for inclusion in the forthcoming browser IE8…
Porn Mode, or InPrivate to give it its official title is a new setting that allows the user to visit sites safe in the knowledge that cookies aren’t being set, nor is the browser history logging the pages being viewed.
Microsoft is advertising the new feature by playing on the idea “maybe you’re buying someone a gift online, and you don’t want them to find out”. Of course what they really mean for this feature is “yeah you’ve been looking at mucky pictures again, and you don’t want anyone to find out”.
Anyway, when I heard about the new feature, and its unofficial but amusing moniker I immediately did a lookup for domains that might be able to register. Yay, my luck was in again, and I am now the proud owner of pornmode.info.
What to do with the site? I plan to create a tutorial describing the workings of InPrivate, and what it means to the average user. Let’s see how the site develops…
Porn Mode - Safe Browsing with InPrivate
Update September 2, 2008 - The new Google Chrome browser released today also features a porn mode known as Incognito.
While it is not expected that the new Google browser will have a huge take-up, it certainly reinforces the trend towards browsers doing more to protect users. Come on Mozilla, keep up!
